Travelling Victoria
Vol: 150 april 2012

Welcome to the sesquicentenary edition of "Travelling Victoria" we are well into our 13th year. Thanks for all your great support over this journey, and we hope to be able to continue for some time yet. It was very sad that the rains cancelled all our camping and canoeing along the Lower Goulburn over the long weekend, and we had to transfer all our canoeing to Nagambie for this period. Thanks for all concerned especially Penny who only lost one of her group of 40-people in the re-location. The Lower Goulburn is open again and we look forward to your bookings as we still have spots available over the Easter break.
The winner of last month's competition is Merlene Shaw from Worri Yallock . A group of sparrows is a 'host' and there will be a further chance to win a $200.00 gift voucher from River Country Adventours a bit later in the bulletin.

Lake Eyre Update.

Lake Eyre has more water in the basin now than at this time last year. With flood waters still to reach Birdsville, it is expected that this year will be a massive flood. This is also the forth year running that Lake Eyre will hold water. This has never happened before in our European history. There is also plenty of water flowing down the Cooper Creek, with the causeway closed at Innamincka. Lake Eyre South is almost full and all the southern creeks are flowing bankers. River Country Adventours have arranged the following 2-day flight tours from Shepparton-
  • April 9-10
  • April 21-22
  • April 26-27

Well done Garry Lyon.

I have never met Jim Stynes but we know Garry Lyon. Garry is formally a Kyabram boy whom I had the pleasure of coaching in the under 16 football team, and I played footy with his old man, Peter. The fabulous testimonial that Garry gave on the Footy Show following the death of his great mate Jim Stynes was the most moving and best I have ever heard. Well done Garry, we all feel we know Jim Stynes now, thanks.
