Travelling Victoria
Vol: 134 december

IAnother good year rapidly coming to an end.  It only seems like the other day we were gearing up for Christmas, getting together with family and sharing our recent experiences.  We pulled the pin on last month's competition, so it will double to a $400.00 'gift voucher' this time.  Last month's question caused a lot of trouble.  We asked when the Channel 9 show "Postcards of Victoria" was on TV.  The answer was Saturday at 5.30 p.m.  However, this show is only shown in Melbourne, and the regional stations WIN T.V show 'Postcards of Australia".  So we were on TV with Grant Hackett in the city but alas not in the bush.  Thanks to all the people who entered, have another crack at this month's question.

Thanks also for the overwhelming response to our feedback requests in the last edition of "Travelling Victoria", greatly appreciated. Perhaps after 10-years of newsletters I was feeling a bit down and I certainly got the most positive responses possible, thanks once again.  Sometimes it gets a bit lonely out here in River Country, it is terrific to know you are all there and supportive.

Canoes for Christmas

River Country Adventours has a good range of new canoes and kayaks for sale.  A quality canoe is a fantastic gift for the whole family.  We have the popular fibreglass "Sunseeker" canoes in some new and exiting colours and the plastic Rovers.  There are 7-"Sunseekers" for sale they retail at $1,269.00. and the Rovers sell for $1,395.00.   Remember we deliver anywhere in Victoria.   Phone 0428 585 227 or email to

Car Stickers

River Country Adventours also have RCA stickers available for the kids big and small.  These are free and we can post them to you for Christmas.  Just let us know how many and your address and they are on their way.  Merry Christmas!

Winery Tours

Available throughout Central Victoria and particularly around the famous wine growing region near Nagambie, Murchison and Heathcote.  These outings are well organised, usually include lunch and visit at least 4-leading vineyards with a variety of blends.  The other good thing about our winery tours is that we will get the group home safely and most wineries that we visit will offer our visitors a healthy discount on purchases.
River Country Adventours can arrange for courtesy collection from Melbourne for your group.

Hoping Mad

The locusts are enjoying a lush spring with grass and crops over much of regional Victoria which is experiencing a boom season.  The heavy rain and now warm sunshine is the perfect ingredients for a locust plaque.  The last time we saw so many grass-hopers was in the early 1970's and I recall trying to play cricket with millions of grass-hopers around.  The birds like crows, ravens, magpies. larks and willy wagtails are having a good feast on the hopers.  Not to mention lizards, snakes and other insect eating creatures which are having an early Christmas lunch.  Foxes also spend a lot of time hunting for locusts, especially at night.

A $400.00 gift voucher is the prize for the lucky winner of this competition.  All you need to do is correctly answer the poser and all correct entries go into my old cricket hat for the draw which will happen around Christmas time.  Have a go, your luck might be in!
Q. Which is further south Bendigo or Horsham?
