Welcome to another newsletter, and nice to get all the positive feedback regarding our bulletin, greatly appreciated.  Also good to get some soaking rain over the past month, this is of great benefit to the faming communities with thousands of hectares of winter crops being planted.  The bush also welcomes the rains, with native grasses and trees taking advantage of this precious resource. All Australians just love rain, probably because in southern regions at least, we never get enough.

The lucky winner from last months competition to win a $200.00 'Gift Voucher' from River Country Adventours is Roger Barn from Southbank.  Everyone knew that it only costs $10.00 a year to be a member of the RCA Adventure Club.  Good value if you are coming to Northern Victoria for a winery tour or some canoeing in the next 12-months.  Members get 10% off all tours (except the special flight tours), canoeing and RCA apparel.   For more information and to sign up today contact rob@adventours.com.au

Lake Eyre Update

The huge lake is still filling and during the month Cooper Creek found its way around the sand dunes and through the desert and began flowing into Lake Eyre.  The last time this happened was in 1990.  There is still plenty of water coming down the rivers and creeks and we expect the flood to remain in the basin until late in the year. This has attracted millions of water birds to feed on the fish being washed down the rivers and creeks and to breed.  Some species will breed up to three times while this flood remains.  This brings the birds of prey and dingos looking for a once in a life time smorgasbord.  River Country Adventours are giving you the unique opportunity to witness this massive flood on a well organized 2-day flight tour from Echuca to Birdsville and Lake Eyre.  The next scheduled tours with vacancies are in August & September, so to reserve your seat on one of these great tours contact Rob at River Country Adventours for more information.  info@adventours.com.au
STOP PRESS- There is a feature article on Lake Eyre in the July edition of Royal Auto, RACV monthly magazine, well worth the read.

Balloons over Eyre

Global Ballooning chief Pilot and Managing Director, Kiff Saunders was involved in a near death accident on a motorcycle in January of this year.  After many operations and weeks of rehabilitation he is hoping to take to the Sky's again in one of his beloved balloons.  He wants his first flight back to be something very special and has chosen this private flight to take place over Lake Eyre South on June 30 or July 1, 2010 weather permitting.  There will be two Hot Air Balloons taking off at Dawn.  The second balloon will be piloted by Brian Garth, a good friend of Kiff and of Joan and I.  Brian is Global Ballooning Yarra Valley Operations Manager.  This trip has become very much a family adventure with many Global Ballooning staff and loved ones involved.
ABC's Australian Story are also doing a story about Kiff's life and we will let you all know when this is going to air.

We have a flight tour over Lake Eyre on June 30, so we will keep an eye out for you Brian!

Euroa

Delightful township on the Hume Freeway 145-km north from Melbourne with the Strathbogie Ranges as the backdrop.  In 1878 Ned Kelly and his gang of notorious bushrangers rode into Euroa and staged a daring robbery of the bank.  The gang rounded up 50-people as hostages before making off with over 2000 quid in the saddle bags.  Ned knew the Strathbogie region well and the police and trackers had no chance to catching him this time.  Euroa is well worth stopping and having a look around, we suggest you visit the Information Centre to help with your plans.

Competition

Here is your chance to win a $200.00 'gift voucher' for any canoeing/camping adventure on the Lower Goulburn.  Simply correctly answer the question and wait for the draw later in July.  All correct answers will be acknowledged.
Q. Which town is further north-Euroa or Nagambie?

Lower Goulburn National Park

On Tuesday June 29, 2010 at Reedy Swamp in Shepparton The Hon. Gavin Jennings MLC (Minister for Environment and Climate Change) will officially open the Lower Goulburn National Park.  We have been invited to this function and hopefully will be able to attend.  The National Park will enhance our tourism business in the region and we have renewed our tour operators license with Parks Victoria for the next 3-years.  Our aim is to continue to protect and promote our unique environment for all the visitors to the bush.
