Travelling Victoria
Vol: 141 july 2011

Welcome once again to another edition of our newsletter.  We hope you continue to enjoy and perhaps get some motivation to venture out into the rural regions of our State and beyond, have a go at the competition and hope your luck changes.  The winner of last months competition is Irene Bennett from Elwood.  Irene knew that there was 72 inches in 6-feet.  Thanks for all who showed their age by entering, and there is another chance to win a $200.00 gift voucher for any canoeing/kayaking adventure on the beautiful Lower Goulburn River at Wyuna near Echuca.

There is plenty to do in the country during the winter months.  Heaps of snow up on the alps, wineries all over the State with quality vintage for you to taste, football and golf also can be done.  Camping in the bush is a good experience during the cooler months with a good  warm fire and the rods in the river, no need to worry about flies and mosquitoes.  If you need any further advice or other recommendations do not hesitate in giving River Country Adventours a call on 03. 5852 2736 we are only too happy to assist you.

Lake Eyre Update

There are vacancies at the moment on special 2-day flight tours from Shepparton to Birdsville and Lake Eyre
  a.. July 17-18  4-seats
  b.. July 29-30  2-seats
  c.. Aug  10-11  8-seats
The huge lake is holding a massive amount of water this year and with more flood waters slowly making it's way down the Simpson Desert, we expect the lake to we worth the trip for a long time to come.  Lake Torrens is receding but still spectacular from the air with the white salt pan spreading almost to the rugged Flinders Ranges.

We have also had to slightly increase the cost of the "Flight to Eyre" tour due to associated costs such as aviation fuel etc., however mention this newsletter and the cost will remain at $1,980.00 p.p.  So if you are thinking about taking this great opportunity, we suggest you act quickly and place your booking to avoid disappointment.

Whale watching tour

There is a couple of seats available on a special 3-day flight tour from Shepparton to Ceduna and the Head of Bight to witness the annual massing of Southern Right Whales on July 26-28.  This also is a terrific tour, well organized fun and friendly.  If you want to see plenty of country and many whales feeding their young with world class viewing, then contact us to make your booking.  Phone Rob on 0428 585 227.

For Sale

River Country Adventours has a couple of new canoes and a small number of used canoes for sale.  These are in our big shed at 13 Mackie Street, Kyabram and if you are in the market for a good quality canoe and the accessories then a trip to Kyabram for inspection is recommended.  Please give us a call before you head off, just to make sure we are home on not a tour to Ceduna or Lake Eyre.

Here is your chance to win that $200,00 "Gift Voucher" from River Country Adventours simply by correctly answering the question.  All correct entries will be acknowledged and then placed into an old cricket cap for the official draw sometime later in July.  Have a go you never know your luck may be about to change.
Q.  Which State of Australia is the Burke & Wills 'Dig Tree' in?

Happy Birthday

River Country Adventours will celebrate 18-years in the tourism industry on July 2, 2011.  We were registered in the Corporate Affairs office in Melbourne on July 2, 1993.  I recall the day well, met this lovely lady in the lift who wished me well in the new venture, and I also wished her well as she was registering one of her many businesses.  Later that night on the T.V news, there she was......Janet Holmes a Court, one of the most successful business women in Australia.  I wonder if she remembers me?

Anyway, what do you think we should do for our 18th birthday?  I look forward to your suggestions.

I have a good true story about a memorial game of football played in the Western District of Victoria many years ago.  If you want a good laugh just ask for the "Incredible Game" short story, and I'll send it to you via email.
