Travelling Victoria
Vol: 174 june 2014

Thanks once again for opening this newsletter and your continued support.  The lucky winner from last month’s competition is Maryanne Alderson from Trentham.   The stump jump plough and Trewhella Jack were invented many years ago in Trentham. (I wonder how many readers would know what a 'Trewhella Jack' is?  Maryanne knew that Mansfield is further east than Benalla and has won a $200.00 ‘gift voucher for any canoeing/camping adventure on the Lower Goulburn.  There will be another chance to win this elusive prize later in this newsletter.

Canoes on the Goulburn.

This is a great time to be on the rivers, nice warm days, no flies and for camping you can have fires to sit around.  There is something magical about a fire in the bush, sitting around and reminding everyone how unlucky you were with the fishing and other things in general.  Usually the long weekend in June is around the last of the canoeing until the early spring.  We are open and looking for business and to give some incentive we are offering 20% discount off all canoeing and camping on the Lower Goulburn.  This special deal is open until June 30, which includes the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend.   We reckon we have the best clients in the world and this is our way of saying thanks.  Really looking forward to your bookings and this includes family and all your friends.  Email-

On the 2nd July this year, River Country Adventours will celebrate 21-years in the tourism industry.  Boy there have been plenty of changes in the period.  I remember the day well, I drove down to Melbourne to the Corporate Office to collect our business registration, it was a nice warm sunny winters day and all the wattles were in full bloom, signs of an early spring.  On arrival in the city, I found a spare parking space right outside the Corporate Office, I bet that will never happen again.  I got my certificate on the ninth floor and coming down in the lift this lovely lady wished me well with my new venture.  It turned out to be Janet Holmes a Court who was also registering one of her businesses.  Well after 21 years (nearly) we are still going, too old to do anything else now and in any case we haven’t done our best work yet.  Thank you for all your support over the years, we do have the best customers in the world.

Flight to Eyre.

Next flight from Shepparton to Birdsville and over Lake Eyre is June 17-18, 2014.  Easy paced 2-day tour which flies low and slow over Mungo before landing in Broken Hill for fuel and a cuppa.  From here we fly to Innamincka for lunch in the famous outback pub, take a good look at the Cooper Creek before again landing at the Dig Tree and the story of the ill-fated Burke & Wills will be revealed.  There is some very interesting country to be seen on the the way to Birdsville for dinner and overnight.  The next morning there is an optional bird watching tour available before breakfast and then we set off over the Simpson Desert for 500-km and then over Lake Eyre.  You will get a real appreciation of the size of the basin and vastness of the region.  Lunch is at William Creek of the western side of the lake, and later in the day we fly to Olympic Dam, Lake Torrens and the massive Flinders Rangers before winging our way back to Mildura for afternoon tea, and more fuel for the rest of the flight home to Shepparton.  For more information and bookings for these once in a life time opportunity please contact River Country Adventours either email or phone 03.5852 2736  M 0428 585 227.

Here is your chance to win the $200.00 ‘gift voucher 'for any canoeing/camping/fishing adventure on the Lower Goulburn River.  Simply correctly answer the question, all correct entries will be acknowledged and placed into an old hat for the draw in early June.  So have a crack, you never know your luck could be changing.

The winter is a great time to round up your friends and go on a well organised winery tour with River Country Adventours.  We have been running these trips for years and we can go with a minimum of 8 and a maximum of up to 60-people.  We arrange lunch at one of the leading Central Victorian Wineries ( either sit down or enjoy a barbecue outside). Escorted tours of the cellars are available and we can also arrange courtesy collection and get you all home safely.  Again for more information and bookings contact River Country Adventours.

We are on Facebook and have some very good photos and articles, and we are currently having a competition with another tourism business (Echidna Walkabout Nature Tours).  At the moment we have 2,871 likes and Echidna have 2,169.  If you have the time please go to our website and click onto the Facebook icon and register your like for River Country Adventours.  We also invite you to become a friend and receive 10% discount off all canoeing and (excluding the flight tours) for the next 12-months.  Again we appreciate your wonderful support, thanks.
