Travelling Victoria
Vol: 156 november 2012

Thanks once again for opening this and we hope you enjoy the easy read and gain some motivation for your next trip out into the Great Outdoors of our beautiful State and beyond. During the month we had two canoes and two kayaks stolen from the sandbar at Tahbilk Winery at Nagambie. We believe that some person or persons in a boat or jet ski with a rope towed the vessels away. Someone along the river must have seen something or know something about this theft. The indecent happened between 8.00 p.m on October 28 and 8.00 a.m the next morning. I remember the days when you could leave your keys in the car when you went to town in the country and everyone respected other peoples belongings. We just hope we can get our gear back, because we need them in our business.

The lucky winner of the competition in last month’s newsletter is Kasey Connelly from Craigieburn. Kasey won a $200.00 ‘gift voucher’ from River Country Adventours for any canoeing and camping adventure on the Lower Goulburn River. Kasey, like everyone, knew that Nagambie is situated in the Strathbogie Shire. There is another opportunity to win later in this bulletin.

Bird Haven.

The more time I spend out near the rivers the more interested I have become with our native birds. From what I have seen all have nested and bred well this season. Young eagles are now emerging from their nests and learning to fly. Ducks have many young growing along the banks of the rivers, and pelican, cranes, spoonbills, ibis, herons and the many smaller birds are all busy tending their chicks. This is a terrific time to be in the bush, no flies or mosquitoes as yet and it is not too hot. The Goulburn after some environmental flows has now settled down to almost summer level and with cod opening a month away, we are expecting many visitors to the Lower Goulburn National Park. We have camping sites available and conduct many of our canoeing activities in this remarkable region. For further information and bookings contact River Country Adventours on 03. 5852 2736.

Q. Which river does the Goulburn flow into?

Thought for the Day.

In 1907 the local Progress Association arranged for a debate to be held in the hall one Saturday night. The topic was the merits of being married or single. A huge crowd turned up and the result went to the married side because none of the bachelors turned up.
