Travelling Victoria
Vol: 179 november 2014

Thanks again for opening this newsletter, and we really do appreciate your kind remarks and support, greatly appreciated.  Conditions are now ideal for canoeing and camping along the Goulburn and Murray Rivers.  Good water heights and plenty of bird life.  During the last week of the recent school holidays there was four platypuses spotted on different occasions.  We would like to think it was four different platypuses.  The introduced fox into Australia in the 1800 ‘s has devastated the populations of these beautiful creatures, but over the years we are seeing more and more, so let’s hope their numbers are on the increase.  Another highlight of the region is the increase in the numbers of Wedge Tail Eagles.  There is a couple of pairs nesting again high in the red gums near Yambuna Bridge.
The lucky winner of last month’s competition is Lyn Bailey from Shepparton.  Lyn like most people knew that a baby koala is a Joey.  There will be another opportunity to win the $200.00 gift voucher for any canoeing/camping adventure on the Lower Goulburn later in this newsletter.

River Flows.

Over the past couple of years the powers in charge of water in this State have been sending extra water down the rivers from time to time. In particular the Goulburn; water is released from the Goulburn Weir near Nagambie and the rise comes through Murchison, 2-days later it is in Shepparton and another 2-days the river around Wyuna begins to rise.  This environmental water is good for fish breeding, and stimulates growth along the banks.  The other good thing is it makes canoeing and camping even more appealing.  There is a rise coming down the Lower Goulburn now and should remain high until well into November.  We have vacancies for the Melbourne Cup period, and the river will be ideal, so book in and see the river at it’s absolute best.  Further more all the birds are busy nesting and we can still have campfires at night.  For more information and bookings phone Rob 0428 585 227.

Christmas Break Ups.

River Country Adventours can arrange for your staff break ups and outings.  We have been doing this for years and are getting pretty good at it.  So if you have staff and work mates looking to have a great time together let us know and we will give you some good options.  From winery tours visiting some of the leading vineyards in the State to canoeing on some of the best rivers for paddling.   A popular adventure is the “Paddle & Wine” tour in which we can arrange for courtesy coach collection from anywhere in Melbourne and most importantly get you home safely.  During the day we arrange for a little bit of canoeing followed by lunch at a winery in the Nagambie region and visit a couple more wineries on the way back home in the afternoon.  Terrific day, one that will bring the staff closer together with fun and is very well organised.  For more information please contact us at or phone Rob on M 0428 585 227.
