Travelling Victoria
Vol: 189 october 2015

Another busy month on the river and we have come to the conclusion that we have the happiest clients in Victoria.  Thank you all for your positive feedback and kindness, we are only doing what we love and share our knowledge and products with you all, is our pleasure.  We have an environmental flow coming down the Lower Goulburn at the moment which is making canoeing and camping even more appealing.  The only down side to all this excess water is that it will soon go down to normal summer level and for a short time we will have to contend with muddy conditions.  We are all good sailors on a smooth sea!
The lucky winner of last month’s competition is Ian Almond of Shepparton, everyone knew it was the Wimmera River that proudly flows through Horsham in the State’s West.  The early explorer Thomas Mitchell named the river after encountering some aborigines near Stawell on his famous Australia Felix expedition in 1836.  Ian has won a $200.00 gift voucher for any canoeing/camping adventure on the Lower Goulburn.  There will be another chance for you to win later in this newsletter.

Polly Mc Quinn.

Set deep in the Strathbogie Ranges near Euroa, you will find a reservoir named Polly Mc Quinn.  This natural water hole was often visited by the bush ranger gang led by the infamous Ned Kelly.  Ned went to primary school in Avenel, and grew up with a love of the bush and the Strathbogie's.  Not surprising that after the gang robbed the National Bank in Euroa in 1878, they seemed to disappear.  Around this time a local called Polly Mc Quinn was swallowed up in a deep water hole and some people believe the reservoir is haunted.  Schools come to the Strathbogie's, camp and go canoeing on the nearby Polly Mc Quinn and Nagambie Lakes.  If more information is required on any of this, please let us know.

A Canoe for Christmas.

Presently there is a wide range of new canoes and kayaks for Christmas.  All sorts of boats from singles and doubles, fishing and cruising.   So if you are thinking about getting a new canoe or kayak, we still have plenty of time to get one in for you.  We deliver anywhere in Victoria.  So for more information on canoes please let us know, a great deal awaits

Here is your opportunity to win a $200.00 gift voucher for any canoeing/camping adventure on the Lower Goulburn River (near Echuca).  All you have to do is correctly answer the question, all correct entries are acknowledged then your name is placed in an old hat for the draw sometime next month.  So have a go, your luck has to change one day.

Q. What river flows through Winchelsea?

Great year 1993.

Essendon won the Grand Final, Vintage Crop wins the Melbourne Cup, Domestic Airline Compass collapsed throwing over 7,000 people out of work, West Indians beat Australia in the tests, Paul Keating is Prime Minister, Fred Hollows and Weary Dunlop die and River Country Adventours was formed on July 2, 1993, and still going.

Thanks again.

I read somewhere once that you should spend at least 15-minutes each day being thankful.  We have had a good run in the tourism industry, thanks to all you people who have supported us.  We are still open and looking for business as we have no intention of retiring as yet.  So keep on keeping on, be happy and book in for your next adventure on the rivers.  We would like some feedback on if you think this newsletter should continue monthly or perhaps bi-monthly.  Let us know what you think, and any suggestions will be taken seriously.  Thanks.
