A bit of history

In 1868 a delegation lead by Gray (the local Member of Parliament at the time), approached the Government of Victoria with the view to gain a grant of 20,000 pounds ($40,000.00) to channel water from the Goulburn at Nagambie to the dry goldfield at Graytown.  The request was rejected; however the survey was adopted some years later with the construction of the Goulburn Weir.  The water from the weir irrigates half a million hectares of prime farmland, producing economic wealth to the Goulburn Valley and beyond.
